⚖️ Zoom is Not Happy

Plus: 📱 Bluetooth Advertising Assault, 💬 Copy-and-Paste

⚖️ Zoom Is Even Less Happy About Microsoft Teams Than You

Zoom’s CEO, Eric Yuan is asking the US government to break up Microsoft Teams and Office.

He is not the first one to complain about Microsoft’s strategy of adding Teams to Office 365 for no additional cost. Slack, another app that lets you chat and work with your colleagues, filed a complaint with the EU regulators in July.

The result of Slack’s complaint?

The EU agreed and forced Microsoft to stop bundling Teams into Office in Europe.

The remark was made at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, suggesting that the US Federal Trade Commission should take a page out of the EU’s book and unbundle Microsoft Teams from Office in the US.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out and what impact it will have on Microsoft Teams’ success.

📚 The Hacking Tool That Turns iPhones into Unusable Devices

Flipper Zero is a popular and relatively cheap hacking tool.

It can be programmed to perform wireless attacks on devices within its range, such as iPhones, car keyfobs, contactless and RFID cards, and more.

A security researcher demonstrated an attack using Flipper Zero that spams iPhones with pop-ups prompting users to connect to nearby Apple devices, making the iPhone nearly unusable.

The researcher called it "a Bluetooth advertising assault".

The attack works by broadcasting Bluetooth Advertisements, a type of transmission in the Bluetooth Low Energy protocol that Apple uses to connect iDevices to other Apple devices.

The researcher suggests that Apple could mitigate these attacks by ensuring the Bluetooth devices connecting to an iPhone are legitimate and valid and also reducing the distance at which iDevices can connect to other devices using Bluetooth.

💬 TikTok Borrowing Ideas from All Corners of the Internet

While everybody else is busy copying TikTok, it looks like TikTok is busy copying everybody else!

TikTok is really expanding in all directions.

They’re testing a dedicated music app, embracing podcasts, and now they’re gearing up for a big push into messaging.

TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, is hiring a team called “TikTok Social” to develop a more powerful messaging system.

The job listings reveal that the team’s mission is to facilitate meaningful user connections through TikTok’s messaging experience. The Social team oversees everything from User Profile to Story, Inbox, Messaging, Follow, Like, Comment, Tag, etc.

It’ll be interesting to see how far TikTok will go in its push into messaging and whether it will displace other messaging apps as the go-to app for young people.
