Lawyer Uses Fake ChatGPT Cases as Supporting Evidence
A lawyer in the Mata v. Avianca, Inc case used ChatGPT to find cases supporting their argument. And what does ChatGPT do? It makes up cases out of thin air! When the lawyer was asked to provide copies of the cases, they turned to ChatGPT again and it made up full details of those cases.
The lawyer even included screenshots of this in their legal filings. When asked if the cases were real, ChatGPT said they were. The judge is not amused and many parties involved may face sanctions. The lawyer initially used ChatGPT to supplement legal research and relied on the legal opinions provided by ChatGPT.
However, it was later revealed that the cases were nonexistent and the lawyer had no intent to deceive the court. This incident serves as a warning to professionals using AI tools like ChatGPT to be cautious and double-check the information provided by these tools.

New Nuclear Reactor and Unexpected Floods Lead to Clean Energy Surplus in Finland
Finlandâs renewable power strategy is totally paying off. Theyâve got so much clean energy that theyâre practically giving it away!
I mean, who wouldâve thought? Just last year they were cutting back on energy use after cutting ties with Russia. But now, thanks to a new nuclear reactor and some unexpected floods, theyâve got a glut of clean energy. And the best part? Itâs almost emission-free!
Jukka Ruusunen, the CEO of Finlandâs grid operator Fingrid, says Finns can âfeel good about using electricity.â And itâs not just the new reactor thatâs helping out. The country is aiming to become carbon neutral by 2035 and has been pushing for renewable energy solutions.

OpenAI may leave Europe if it canât comply with the EUâs new AI Act
OpenAIâs CEO Sam Altman is worried about the EUâs new AI Act. Theyâll try to comply, but if they canât, they might just pack up and leave Europe altogether.
The EUâs proposed rules would ban AI systems in the highest risk category, while the second risk category would have âspecific legal requirements.â The third category is for AI systems that arenât banned or high-risk and would be âlargely left unregulated.â
The EUâs AI Act is all about regulating AI and keeping Europeans safe from certain AI risks. But Altman worried that OpenAIâs systems, like ChatGPT and GPT-4, could be labeled as âhigh riskâ under the new rules.
The rules also say that AI companies have to design their models to prevent âillegal contentâ and publish summaries of copyrighted data used for training. But hereâs the kicker: Altman recently told the US Senate that there should be a government agency to oversee big AI projects.
