šŸ”€ Finnish Prisoners: Swap Shovels for Keyboards

Plus: šŸšØ Ethereum Founder Hacked! šŸ“± iPhone 15: Lightning Strikes USB-C

šŸ¤– Why are Finnish prisoners becoming AI data labelers?

In Finland, prisoners are being employed by a startup, Metroc, to label data for AI models.

Why prisoners?

You see, Finland has a problem: their welfare system is too good. Nobody wants to do boring and low-paying tasks like clicking on pictures of cats and dogs all day.

Plus, Finnish is a nightmare for machine translation.

There are only about 5 million people who speak it, and they have words like ā€œlentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottoriapumekaanikkoaliupseerioppilasā€, which means ā€œairplane jet turbine engine auxiliary mechanic non-commissioned officer studentā€.

Try saying that three times fast.

To address this challenge, Metroc turned to the prison system, offering inmates the opportunity to participate in AI work during three-hour shifts, for which they are paid a wage of ā‚¬1.54 ($1.67) per hour.

While critics worry about exploiting vulnerable populations for cheap labor, supporters see it as a way to involve non-English languages in the AI revolution.

šŸ’ø Ethereum Co-Founder Vitalik Buterin Falls Victim to Twitter Hack

Vitalik Buterin, the genius behind Ethereum, got his Twitter account hacked by some crypto crooks.

They used his account to promote a fake NFT that claimed to celebrate the upcoming ā€œproto-dankshardingā€ update, which is actually a real thing that will make Ethereum faster and more scalable.

But the NFT was just a trap to steal peopleā€™s money.

Anyone who clicked on the link and connected their wallet risked losing their crypto assets. The scammers managed to get away with more than $650,000 in just a few hours.

The tweet was deleted within twenty minutes, but the damage was done. This serves as a wake-up call to the crypto community about the potential for high-profile accounts to be compromised.

If Vitalik can get hacked, anyone can.

šŸ“± iPhone 15 Bids Farewell to Lightning Port

Appleā€™s ā€˜Wonderlustā€™ event is keeping the tech world buzzing with anticipation.

The star of the show will be the iPhone 15 series, which is rumored to have some major upgrades.

The iPhone 15 will ditch the Lightning port and switch to USB Type-C, making it compatible with more devices and chargers.

It will also have a 48-megapixel main camera. And if you opt for the Pro models, youā€™ll get an extra feature: an ā€˜Action buttonā€™.

Apple will also introduce the Apple Watch Series 9 and a new Apple Watch Ultra, both powered by a new S9 chip.

Apple will also launch a new version of AirPods Pro (Gen 2) with a USB Type-C port just like the iPhone 15.

The event, scheduled for September 12, Tuesday at 10:30 pm IST, can be streamed on Appleā€™s YouTube channel and website.
