🌪️ Finding a Tech Job is still a Nightmare

Plus: 🍿 Netflix's Fantasy Retail Destination, ✍️ Google's AI Writing and Image Tool

🌪️ A Glimpse into the Chaos of Today's Tech Job Market

Dozens of applications and interviews, hours spent tweaking resumes, and a conference and career fair-turned-Hunger Games.

Finding a job in tech is a mess.

Tech companies have laid off more than 400,000 people in the past two years. Competition for the jobs that remain is getting more and more desperate.

Tech giants like Meta, Google, and Amazon have imposed hiring freezes, leading to a saturated market.

And if you’re looking for an entry-level position, good luck. The market is skewed towards experienced professionals.

Meanwhile, job seekers are resorting to AI tools like ChatGPT to automate their applications, but this only makes the hiring process more confusing and chaotic.

🍿 Netflix Plans to Launch A Fantasy Retail Experience

Netflix plans to launch a retail destinations, called Netflix House, in 2025.

These locations will be part shop, part restaurant, and part immersive entertainment.

You can grab merchandise inspired by your favorite characters, munch on food straight out of your favorite scenes, and even experience themed events.

The first of these fantastical destinations are set to open in the US. Josh Simon, Netflix’s VP of consumer products, says these spaces are all about taking fan immersion to the next level.

Netflix has dabbled in the retail world before with an online merch shop and pop-up stores. But Netflix House is their first permanent retail location.

✍️ Google's SGE: An AI Writing and Image Tool

Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE) is now able to conjure up images based on user prompts, much like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat.

Or, you know, like Bing’s DALL-E 3 model.

You can tell SGE what kind of image you want, and it’ll present you with four results. This feature is powered by Google’s Imagen text-to-image model and is only available to those who are 18 and older.

SGE also lets users write drafts within the platform. You can adjust the tone of your writing and even export your drafts to Google Workspace apps.

Google has also implemented measures to prevent misuse, such as adding metadata and invisible watermarking on AI-generated images.
