👁️ Facebook Finally Puts a Price on Privacy: It’s $10 a Month

This month, for the first time, Meta will finally put a monthly price on privacy.

Right now for people in Europe that price is €9.99 ($10.50), or €12.99 if they sign up on their phones.

This is a major change for Meta, a company that has long lauded the benefits of an ad-supported internet, arguing that it means everyone gets the same service, however much money they might have.

But a series of fines and legal cases in Europe are backing the company into a corner, with regulators arguing it needs to change the way it gets users to consent to behavioral advertising.

Meta’s response? If people don’t like these ads, they can pay to opt-out.

Meta will roll out the new ad-free subscription option in the European Union, Norway, Iceland, Lichtenstein, and Switzerland on an unspecified date in November.

The subscription option will only be available to adults, while the company’s platforms will pause ads for people under 18.

💡 LinkedIn Integrates with OpenAI

LinkedIn, now at 1 billion users, is turning on OpenAI-powered reading and writing tools.

Initially, the new tools will be rolled out to Premium (paying) users and they will appear in three areas.

  1. You can use them to spruce up your feed

  2. You can use AI tools to digest any linked articles, where you can use them to write something smart on that article as you share it

  3. You can apply them to your job-hunting experience, typically when you send a response to a recruiter or if you’re a recruiter reaching out to a candidate.

The technology behind these tools combines OpenAI APIs, including Large Language Models and GPT-4, with LinkedIn’s proprietary data to generate content tailored to each user’s profile.

🤝 Agentio Is Building a Platform for YouTubers to Sell Ad Slots in Their Videos

Agentio, a New York-based startup, is developing a platform for YouTube creators to sell ad slots to brands.

The platform aims to automate key tasks such as matching brands with compatible creators and ensuring brand-safe advertising content. It also allows creators to upload details about their upcoming videos to sell ad spots, providing better brand matching.

The technology behind Agentio was developed by Arthur Leopold, former president at Cameo, and Jonathan Meyers, a former engineer at Spotify. They aim to bridge the gap between brands and creators, making collaborations more streamlined and efficient.

Agentio has raised $4.25 million in seed investment funding from various investors including Craft Ventures and AlleyCorp. The startup earns revenue by charging a 20% fee to brands on their ad purchases.
