š” Ai Pin: A Glimpse into the Future of Ambient Computing
Tech startup Humane, founded by ex-Apple employees, has launched the Ai Pin, a device thatās all set to usher us into the era of āambient computingā.
The Ai Pin is all about voice control and works independently of smartphones. It uses a Humane-branded wireless network and projects information right onto your palm.
The device runs on the proprietary Cosmos OS, eliminating the need for apps.
The Ai Pin is available for pre-order now for $699, plus a $24 monthly fee for the HumaneNet service. It has some impressive backers, including Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI.

šļø Meta Teams Up with Amazon to Introduce Integrated Shopping on Facebook and Instagram
Meta, formerly Facebook, has partnered with Amazon to offer in-app shopping on Facebook and Instagram.
Users can link their social media accounts to their Amazon accounts, using saved payment information and shipping addresses for purchases.
The collaboration allows direct shopping from Amazonās ads on these platforms, with access to real-time pricing, Prime eligibility, and product details.
The partnership enhances ad targeting and optimization and bypasses challenges posed by Appleās App Tracking Transparency policy.
This collaboration presents a significant revenue opportunity for both Meta and Amazon, and comes as TikTok ventures into e-commerce, potentially challenging Amazonās dominance.
šŖ Omegle Shuts Down After 14 Years
Omegle, the popular online chat service, has shut down after 14 years due to misuse and āunspeakably heinous crimesā.
Founded in 2009 by then-18-year-old Leif K-Brooks, the platform attracted about 50 million visitors last month.
However, the stress and expense of operating Omegle and combating its misuse have become unsustainable.
K-Brooks, who appears to have run the service alone, expressed disappointment in the changing internet landscape, fearing a shift towards passive consumption and less active participation.
Omegle reported 600 000 incidents of child sexual abuse on its site in 2022. It was egregiously dangerous and the world is a better place without it.
The fact that it was taken offline by civil action and not state enforcement is an indictment of the weakness of US regulation.
