🔐 Netflix's Password Crackdown Sparks Massive Surge in User Sign-Ups
Netflix’s new plan to crack down on password sharing in the US is paying off big time!
Netflix had its “four single largest days” of new user sign-ups in the US in late May. That’s even more than the early days of the Covid pandemic!
Netflix added 100,000 new accounts in the first 2 days. In the following days, Netflix saw a more than 100% increase in sign-ups from the prior 60-day average.
But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows for Netflix. The company also saw an increase in cancellations during this period, but not as much as sign-ups. And let’s not forget about the writers’ strike outside the Netflix offices in Hollywood, California.
Despite all this, Netflix shares have climbed over 27%, to about $415, over the last month. Looks like cracking down on password sharing was a smart move for Netflix!

🏦 Twitter Is Not Paying its Google Cloud Bill
They’ve been withholding payment to Google Cloud, one of their cloud computing providers. This could cause some trouble for their trust and safety teams.
While Twitter does have its own data centers, they rely on Google’s cloud infrastructure for fighting spam, child sex abuse material, and other functions.
But now, Twitter is trying to renegotiate the contract, and it’s not going so well. And it’s not just Google they’re having trouble with. Amazon warned them about withholding advertising payments because of outstanding bills for cloud computing services.
Since Musk’s acquisition, Twitter has been cutting costs left and right, even laying off thousands of employees. Musk wants to cut infrastructure costs by $1 billion! Talk about penny-pinching.
